The first thing that most of my friends and family in India said when I told them that my husband and I were moving to Berlin last year in the summer was “Ooh! It gets really cold in Germany!”
Friends and acquaintances who had visited gave us advice about what kind of winter clothing we would need, from head to toe. Caps, scarves, gloves, boots, jackets… the works! And everything must be waterproof because Berlin has a rainy winter and it snows in winter!
Being from a warm tropical country, I was really excited about the prospect of living in a city where it snows!
So I landed in Berlin in the peak of summer, and counted the weeks patiently till the snow season would start. Autumn was beautiful and cool, and the city parks were vibrant and so colourful!
Autumn turned into winter, and the trees shed their leaves. December began. Christmas markets popped up everywhere. Skies grew cloudy and grey and temperatures teased the 0°C mark. Ooh, I was so excited!
Every time I’d talk to friends and family back home in India they’d ask “Will it be a white Christmas for you? Has it snowed yet?”
No, I told them. No chance of a white Christmas. But then again January is the coldest month here. It will snow then.
And well, January is here. In fact, half of it has already passed.
There. Has. Been. No. Snow.
I’m still waiting. With my camera ready and all.
But I’m losing hope.
This is how the sky looked today.

Yup, I hate to admit it. I don’t think I’m going to see any snow here anytime soon.
Is it too late to book a holiday in Switzerland?!
