So I tried my hand at writing ekphrastic poetry.

An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or a work of art.

Almond Blossoms by Vincent van Gogh

A Lesson In Patience

A spray of floral beauty
against the wild blue yonder,
boughs laden with blossoms
with beauty yet to squander.

Sinewy stems, brawny branches,
reaching beyond the eye can see,
a filigree of buds and blooms
a portrait of spring – a synecdoche.

A choir of angelic white
singing atop the highest bough,
whilst nurturing branches below
loyalty and sustenance avow.

Gossamer white in full bloom
lingering; ready to bear fruit
while young buds bide their time
patiently waiting to follow suit.

The pageantry will soon conclude
extinguished by warm summer nights,
branches weary with fruit will replace
buds and blooms when Fall alights.

For Fall is when they truly blossom
brimming with bounteous souvenirs;
yields ready to be picked and savored
their duty done; leaves shed as tears.

Winter, on arriving, will find them bare;
stripped of leaves, flowers, and fruits
yet standing firm knowing that soon
Spring will reveal divine attributes.

Each season will play its role
as the almond blossom stands strong,
eagerly embracing every occasion
waiting for the next one to come along.
