My husband loves to cook.
He really enjoys it.
I’ve seen the way his eyes light up when he thinks of a new recipe to try. He’ll add in the spices and herbs with a flourish and do a little dance while stirring the pot on the stove.
However, he never follows recipes. He likes to wing it.
That means I have never eaten the same dish twice! Hah!
Another specialty of his cooking is that if you compliment the chef for a delicious meal, you can be sure it’s going to be a weekly special at least 4 times a week!
(But if it tastes different every time, can you really call it the same dish?)
I’m not complaining. In fact, I’m grateful (c’mon, who wouldn’t be!) that I have a partner who shares the load of chores with me.
To be fair, I’m not a bad cook. But I don’t quite enjoy cooking as much as he does.
(Also, I tend to follow recipes, which makes cooking more of a procedure, and reminds me of work!)
I, on the other hand, love organizing and cleaning. So, we’re a perfect fit!
He cooks and does his mad scientist experiments in the kitchen, and then after dinner I go in and clean up the mess the hurricane left behind! Ha ha!
I’m just kidding, it’s not so bad.
It’s good to have someone who complements me. He cooks, I clean. He vacuums, I do the laundry. He takes out the trash while I load the dishwasher.
We do go grocery shopping together though. While he’s busy picking up the healthy food, I head for the chocolate-chip muffins.
Gotta maintain the balance, right?!
